A few years ago i started really getting into my own home theater & 2ch system. My wife & i just moved into a house from previous apts and now have something, that with my budget, im proud of. Its definately still in the works but this is what i have as of now. I love the warmth that B&W brings to the table. Once i added the 685s in the back, movies took on a whole new dimension! 5 channel stereo sounds pretty sick too. We just painted the wall behind the equipment, not sure if i like it. Looks better in person than in pics but think i want to change color of pattern. Anyways... all comments are welcome. Dont worry you wont hurt my feelings!....
Nice set up!! I loved my 683s, as stated before a very under rated speaker. I think you'd be a lot happier adding some power since most all B&Ws are power hungry. I used a Rotel preamp and went through a RB1080 (200wx2) then to the RB1092 (500wx2). The last amp made them sound damn good and I got many compliments from friends. I also replaced the stock internal wiring, solder points and bi-wire jumpers which made a big difference. B&W paired with Anthem products is a great combination if you're upgrading from the Denon.
System edited: Made a few changes to room layout, speaker placement, room acoustics & decor. VERY happy with both the aesthetic & sonic improvements! Got the phase dialed in with the dual subs & WOW what an increase in power. Cant believe what i was missing all that time.
hi eric, i know what you mean! i was listening to the BRAND new 802D hooked up to Classe Prepro & Amps....HOLEEEYY! Those babys really sound transparent. Beautiful, quality sound! But until i hit the lotto those arent anywhere near my budget. Im pretty maxxed out for now.:)
Hi beachbum! Like youve said everytime we make upgrades it leads us to another want....want want want! but until i can afford more power im just gonna have to be content with what ive got. Its a fun hobby i love it.
However, im not sure if my next upgrade should be new power to push the B&Ws or a new JL Audio Fathom 113....any thoughts??
i promise your wife ,when she hears the B&W,s with a couple hundred watts of quality going to them she will be smiling!!but as we all know once you go to power amp,you will then hear the shortcoming,s of your pre,and then your source and cables and so on and on and on and on and on and on and on LOL you get the point,
I just want to add my 2 cent opinion. You have not hear the fat lady sing yet. What you got is great for the denon receiver. Wait until you go into B&W diamond tweeter(802d , 801d, & 800d) and monoblock amp. OMG! The fat lady really sing. Enjoy your rigs and happy listening!
beachbum, i read your response & my wife was in the room, she was not happy with you! haha I told her that ive already heard that these need more power to really get into their groove. you just confirmed it & im stoked to know that i have more to look forward to with the B&Ws. I absolutely love them now.....oh boy...amps here i come!
add a bigger dedicated 2 channel amp or maybe a 5 channel in your case to the b&w,s,as you have not heard these open up yet, look on the virtual systems or ask the guys who own these speakers what mates up with these, but trust me ,you think your happy now,you will be floored by the next level,oh and enjoy
System edited: Previously i had 4 B&W M1 satellites as my 4 rear channels. I just yesterday got 2 B&W 685s as my rears & am stunned at how great they sound! Extremely powerful! I also in the same purchase went from an HTM62 to my new HTM61. The soundstage got HUGE & with a depth ive never heard before with my system! I am very happy with my changes!
