Pics of our Boxers added...

Jb8312, Positive-Feedback's Carl Hruza reviewed the Ridgestreet Audio Sason's in Issue 17.

My shortish personal opinion of the Sason's is that they are a marriage of all the positive traits I've chased in loudspeakers over the years with no obvious partnering weaknesses, something I could not claim for any of my previous loudspeakers (Avalon Eclipse, Kharma Ceramique 1.0, Magnepan 3.6r, ML ReQuest, Vandersteen 2C). They all did some things well AND unfortunately, were limited in other ways. I can't say that about the Sasons.

They reveal nuaunce in ways and/or degree that I didn't think possible...nuance in dynamic shadings and nuance in tonal shadings. This, for me, has become especially important toward creating "believability" as I've matured over the years. They are coherent from top to bottom. The bottom is limited to mid-to-high 30 Hz, though I RARELY ever wonder what I'm missing below that. Macro-dynamics can be startling, something none of my previous speakers could do (I often flirted with the idea of trying some high efficiency horns to be able to "chase" this aspect of music, but they seem to have other limitations that I know would irritate me over time).

They soundstage and image remarkably well...certainly near the very top in this category. The one system I have heard that truly bettered it was an Avalon Eidolon system at Progressive Audio in Columbus, OH (a long time time ago). They had them in a large room with over $30k worth of soundtreatment and in the imaging and soundstaging department, just seemed "dialed". Tonally and dynamically, however, I really didn't care for the sound of the Eidolons in this room.

The one negative I can say about the Sason's is that they are REALLY heavy and difficult to move around. I'm a fairly strong 41 year old and I cannot reposition them in the room (on spikes) without help from my wife. They weigh around 170lbs each without the sand/leadshot filled stands. I can lift them just fine...it's the placing them back on the stands that requires help from the wife...I need her to guide the speaker spikes into the receiving "coins" on the speaker stands. They have recently changed the size (not the internal volume) by moving the x-over into the stands so this may reduce my one complaint.

How about some comments on those speakers? I tried to get Ridge Street to send me a pair for review on www.positive-feedback.com and we couldn't make it happen...

Their "claims" of their sound are tough to support when there is not one credible review out there net of otherwise..

So, how do the sound?

Streetdaddy, I do have a German Working Boxer and an American Show Boxer. I love them both! The male American Show Boxer is absolutely gorgeous looking and has such an expressive personality, not to mention amazing athleticism. I started Schutzhund training with the female German Working Boxer when she was young. She has amazing prey drive and did very well on the sleeve early, but ultimately she was enjoying it less as training got further along so she switched to playing soccer with her "brother" at the park. She always DEEPLY wants to please...great dog!! I'll post some pics later. Her father is a a Sch3 and a Police Dog in Wisconsin.

Tell me about your Boxers?
