@jafant, currently I’m using two Adcom ACE-315’s with one being exclusively used with analog components and the other one being exclusively used with digital components.
Srwooten, just saw your post. I've been going back and forth between Denon TU-800 and Denon TU680-NAB tuners. Planning on a big video change, room construstion and am considering trying a TacT room correction pre. Perhaps I'll post photos after the room gets worked on, just trying to get some other rooms in the house done first. The shorting plugs provide very subtle help.
Sounds like a great system. Have you made any changes lately? Please post pics if possible. Do the Virtual Mode RCA shorting plugs make much of a difference?
Vman71, thanks for your suggestion. I forsee a some big changes in digital. I'm not sure modding my player would make economical sense. The Arcams don't seem to be amongst most modders choice platforms either.
Modding your Arcam would yield some very nice sonic improvements. I just finished modding my EAD CD-1000 with upgraded Rubycon caps and Fairchild "stealth" soft recovery diodes, power supply tweak, dampening, and silver wiring.
Oz, I do like the Thiel sound. I'v been using Thiels since 1988. While the 3.5's can sound a bit hard on occasion (and this is very dependent on the recording), I personaly think they might be one of the all time great classics, especialy when you consider the cost to performance ratio. If I were to change, I'd probably try and find some Dunalvy SC IVA's. Truth be told I don't think the price difference would warrant the change. If money weren't an issue, and even though I haven't actually heard them, I would seriously look into the Huffs. BTW, I also like your Maggies, way back when, they made it to the top 3 on my short list, needless to say they were the only ones that differed significantly from the the others. I don't know if you've actually heard the Arcam, you might be surprised. The only other players that I'm aware of that would fill all my critera and are within my budget are the Denons. Having large active dogs and a large active child, I think I would have a nervous breakdown with a vinyl rig. I have some other ideas, but, before I make them public, I was hoping to get suggestions. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Even if we have different priorities/tastes I appreciate your considered effort.
Sorry, just not a fan of the Thiel sound. If YOU like it, that's all that matters. I would however, suggest acquiring a better digital source and certainly a vinyl front end. That would go a long way to improving the sound of the 3.5s.
Unsound, let me the first to congraguate you on your wonderful system. The Jon soderburg mods on your Threshold gear must be a fine improvent over the already great performance of your Threshold pieces. I know you put much thought into building this rig Good job!
