Description

This compact system built into the wall mounted cabinet allows me to enjoy the music without disturbing anyone who not allways shares your music pasion (especially late in the night).

I'm plannig to add speakers/amp some time later but, as my audio-buddies say, I would have to work hard and invest rather long green, to keep the same level of playback fidelity and musical enjoyment.

    • DIY Maggie
    Homebrewed TT with hybrid bearing, comprising repulsion magnets and brass/SS journal bearing with ceramic ball on tungsten thrust plate. Multilayer platter: hardwood(bubibga) top and brass/sorbothane/filled with lead shot aluminum subplatter; total weight 65 lb. Birch plywood/aluminum base stuffed with lead shot, with solid brass feets. Rested on 4 inch maple block, which is supported, in turn by sandbox placed on three pair of magnet repulsion feets. Driven by Teres motor/controller through VCR tape belt. Holds two arms: homemade air linear tracker (Ladegaard design)with wooden armwand and Ortofon SPU Royal Navy cart, and Lustre arm dedicated for mono fitted with D102.

    Overall very good low compliance mid price cart.
    • Denon D-102 mono
    Decent entry level mono cart.
    • Sennheiser HD 590
    Actually no speakers at all, just a pair of my preffered headphones with Stefan AudioArt aftermarket cable.
    • Singlepower MPX3
    Dedicated single-ended amplifier for headphones.

As it has been said beautiful turntable. Amazing.

True on the long green. I too have an MPX3 that pulls double duty as a headphone amp and preamp. The headphones cost roughly 1/10 what the amps and speakers cost and I cannot say I get 10 times the enjoyment out of the speakers. True I love the image and spacial presence but often I find myself going to the headphones so I can listen deep into the music.

Give some speakers a try but definitely keep the cans close by!

Great looking TT. I too enjoy Singlepowers amp and headphones. Though I understand what your friends are saying about fidelity of sound being expensive to equal in speakers...you are missing the presentation that only speakers can bring...there is still something about speakers even if they do not resolve as much as headphones. This is just a counter to what your friends are saying by someone who enjoys both very much.

It appears that you have some machining background!?! I am debating a similar idea to build my own TT. Thinking down the air bearing route...we'll see...
