Description

This system has been refined over the last few years with a change from tubes to solid state. This was primarily as I have retired and now have the system on all day for music or tv. The component that has not changes since purchasing in 2006 is my Avantgarde Duo horns. The sound from these is dynamic but totally fatigue free. These speakers are highly transparent and reveal differences in any change to the system.

The addition on Grimm MU1 Streamer and Mola Mola DAC has delivered a wonderful sounding digital front end. I now find the preference between analogue and digital is more to do with how the recording was captured rather than the medium. My vinyl is played on a Techdas Airforce V which replaces an Avid Acutus. I also fitted a Supatrac Blackbird arm which is an odd looking beast but suits the deck really well. The cartridge is a Dynavector XV1-t.

I have moved all the electronics into my office which is adjacent to my lounge. This was a move primarily for WAF but actually improved the sound. I do have all equipment mounted on EVP footers and these work really well.

I am very satisfied with the system and the only possible change might be to the new Avantgarde Duo GT G3 horns.

Components Toggle details

    • Avantgarde Duo Omega G1
Duo’s with Sub 225 unit. I have tried to better time align the tweeter by turning it upside down and using the rear-most mountings.
    • AGD Production Audion GanFet monoblocks
These are brilliant sounding amps and replace an Atmasphere S30 OTL amp (which was also excellent).
    • Mola Mola Makua pre + phono
Makua pre with built in phono replaces PS Audio BHK pre and Stellar phono
    • Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC
Fantastic DAC replaces Berkeley Reference DAC
    • Grimm Audio MU1 Streamer
    MU1 streamer replaces Auralic Aries
    • Techdas Airforce V turntable/ Supatrac Blackbird / Dynavector XV1-t
Techdas Airforce V with Supatrac Blackbird arm and Dynavector XV1-t cartridge
    • PS Audio PerfectWave Power Plant 10
    • REL Acoustics S-812 Subwoofer
The Avantgarde horns are not lacking in bass! However, the is a 50Hz null at my listening position and the REL S-812 sub helps to remove the null and smooth out the bass. I have the sub sited behind the listening spot. When you just listen to the sub you would not imagine it does much. However, if you switch it off whilst playing you immediately lose quite a bit.

I really wish REL would have an APP like SVS do as it is a pain when setting up to keep getting up to adjust the volume/cutoff.

The speakers are beautiful! I bet they sound amazing with that equipment. Truly a system to enjoy!

The The , Ensoulment. Nice
Kinda like going back to the “The The” sound of his earlier releases. Another LP you might like released last year too is Modern English “1234”. Enjoy the music!

Looks fantastic! You have a much more generous WAF than I do... :)

Well done! Nicely built system and a comfortable room, what more could one ask for. Bet it sounds sublime.
