Description

The latest changes were to bring up the weaker components to match the stronger ones- the Pass X250.8, Constellation preamp, and Magicos. My fellow audiophiles and civilians agree that the improvement over the past year has been such that it sounds on another level. This is especially the case with the analog part, but the digital is enjoyable and sounds better, The cabinet housing the components required reconstruction to accommodate first the amp and then the larger turntable. I had to give up quite a bit of album shelf space to make room for the Pass and its ventilation requirements, thus the shelves above the audio components and the new shelving area in the book stacks.

    • VPI Industries Prime -21
Replaced my Scout after 12 years. While it was a good TT, the unipivot design did not inspire confidence in use and kept DW from using the TT. When the DS-1 needed replacement, we decided it was time for a TT with a more reassuring tonearm. In addition, moving up in the DS hierarchy made a higher model TT appropriate. Both DW and I are happier with the Gimbal design arm.
    • DS Audio DS-003 cartridge
Kept the E1 EQ as I'm hoping to move up to the Meitner E2 EQ when one turns up on demo or used.
    • LUMIN U2
It's an improvement over the network card in the Bricasti and it allow use of an optical ethernet cord. Eventually the Bricasti will go to the upstairs secondary system once the upstairs is remodeled.
    • Cardas Audio Clear Beyond speaker cable
I did some cable auditioning prior to getting these on the used market. The difference in sound was sufficient to convince DW to allow exposed cables; previously,  I had routed the longer length under the floor. Also, the blue color matched the tile (DW had veto'd Transparent cables due to color and design).
    • Cardas Audio Clear power cords
Added these in steps as they came available second-hand or demo from among other sources A-gon
