This is what I could put together with money I recived here and there. I am quite happy with the sound, however I want to get away from tubes because of time issues. Sometimes I only have 15-20min to listen, so I find it pointless to turn on the shanling. I want something I can leave on 24/7 and not worry about it.
Bought from floor of vtv show in Pasadena, CA in November 2005. Only pair currently out in the real world. Two fostex 206-E's per speaker as well as a fostex supertweeter and two 6.5
Shanling STP-80
All tube int-amp... currently looking to trade or sell for s/s gear
JVC XL-F108
All I have for now
Teac A-L700P
Tripath digital amp... sounds pretty damn good for the money... keep around as a spare
Yep, duke is a great guy. One of, as you say the true gentlemen of audio. He was a great guy, I met him at the vtv show where I picked up the speakers. And don't worry about the mix up
Sorry about the insinuation that you didn't actually own the Cheetahs but for some reason, when you wrote that ...this is the the system I could put together with the money I have received..." as opposed to saying "...have put together..." I took it to mean that you fancied this set-up and hoped to have it one day. I have seen fantasy systems listed before in Virtual Systems so I wrongly interpretted yours to be one by the text as written. No biggee.
BTW, Duke and I go back a ways as we used to regularly attend audio meetings at his B&B, my place and others while he was here in Choco City ( I'm assuming you got your speakers directly from him ). He is one of the true gentleman of audio and certainly the most knowledgable speaker guy I have ever talked to.
Well I have owned the cheetah for 5 or so months now. It is a great speaker. I will comment more on the sound later when I have some more time at hand. But it is a steal for the list price of $1900. It sounds alot better than the zu mkIV's I had in my home for a week. I love them =)
Have you actually auditioned the Cheetah? I'd be interested to hear impressions of it. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it a transmission line two-way running a Fostex full range? As the name implies, I expect it would be quite fast and light on its feet.
