Description

This system has taken years to come to fruition.  I simply love it.  I am a bare bones music listener.  I don't stream or do home theater.  Most of the components are original and have not been modified or upgraded, EXCEPT for the following: KRELL KAV250 AMP.  This is a late 90's model and had a recall in it's first year.  I had that issue resolved and recently had upgrades on all caps and resistors.  The work was done at THE SERVICE DEPT. in Bridgeport Conn.  I highly recommend them. The amp rocks and I'm good for years to come. SONIC FRONTIERS SFP1 SIGNATURE PHONO PREAMP.  I had one of the originators of this product, Glenn, at THE PARTS CONNEXION in Ontario overhaul this unit.  All new caps, resistors, and ceramic tube sockets!  It sounds wonderful, warm, yet crispy.  They also set my load and resistant settings  for my Benz Micro Glider cart, 1.1mv.  Not modified but my most recent upgrade was the AUDIO GD HE1 BALANCED XLR VACUUM TUBE PREAMP, WITH REGENERATIVE POWER SUPPLY.  I bought this from Wally at Underwood Hi Fi.  It being made in China, it was Wally's 2 year warranty that made me pull the trigger on a unit from a country that is hard to communicate with.  I am so glad that I did.  This one upgrade brought the sound of my system up by a great amount.  The amount of presence, clarity, separation, punch and energy that this preamp helped my components reveal was simply astounding.  Wally was great to deal with. Also, the dust cover for the VPI SCOUTMASTER was custom made by an Audiogoner,  whose site name is 1854K.  He did a great job.  One other thing: I use the Ultech UCD 100 as a transport that feeds the Bel Canto Dac.  I just received the SCHIIT BIFROST 2/64 and am currently burning it in.  I'll post an update on that as the Bel Canto Dac I have is 4 generations old.  The OPPO BDP-95 I use for an occasional movie, but is my second playback unit for CD's (SACD,HDCD) that I use via XLR outputs to my preamp.  All interconnects are Audioquest, Transparent Music link and Signal Cable: power cords also Signal Cable and Pangea.  Thanks VERY MUCH for looking!!

flashcider, dinov, and puptent: Thanks so much for taking the time to look at my rig.

flashcider: the hobbit looking front door is only a portion of this unique house, built in 1926.  Good eye!

dinov: the selection of each component just kind of evolved over time.  But, yes, I put lots of thought and research into each piece.

puptent: it takes time to build these systems. Sounds like with a smaller place and a consolidation of your 3 systems, I'm sure you'll nail a nice rig that has your name on it!

THANK YOU ALL AGAIN!

System is great and I like your hobbit looking front door.

flashcider

Really nice system! You can tell that a lot of thought went into picking each component. That’s what this hobby is all about.

I really like the set-up. I'm on a tight budget, so not much of my systems (3) even comes from the 21st century. I use Spotify to audition music that I would like to pursue (which is how I stream). Eventually I will be in a smaller house and down to one system. I hope as nice as this one...  I am impressed!

Thanks, jond, for looking and for your comment!
The Ultech is built like a tank.  And with the HDCD chip's 20 bit resolution, it does crank some serious vibes.  But with regular 16 bit resolution when playing Redbook cd's, it does sound dated.  I just couldn't part with it. Nor could I with the Dunlavys.  Those speakers just sound magical. Cheers!

Lovely room and cool system Jud. Love seeing some of that classic old gear Dunlavy and that Ultech CD player a total blast from the past. I bet it all sounds great together.

Hey Scott,
Thanks for your comment.
Actually, with the Tiffany light on, the sound is brighter, better defined highs. With it off, it's much warmer and fluid.
I should have added the light as a component. 😂

Great room and setup. Love the Tiffany lamp.

Cheers,

Scott
