Thank you for that suggestion. I've had bad luck with EL34s in the past but I know that the Air Tight is supposed to be wonderful. There's an original dual rectified one with the Tamura transformers in my area that I think I should hear.
Luxman OTL out, Fisher SA-100 in. I think this is the best compromise of SET and solid state sound. Good bass, very transparent. Still searching for a keeper amp. Almost bought Shindo CV391 the other day but didn't want to spend that much with just blind hope.
Thanks! The plinth is from dasacoustic.com. He's also on eBay. It's birch ply with a mdf top, all clear lacquered. He has an amazing selection of idler plinths and can make any armband you need as well.
Got rid of the 300B SET. Replaced with a Luxman MQ-36 OTL amp. Very rare in the US with US voltage. I've never hear anything close to this in my home. Wow. Also it's super hot, so there's that. Good in the winter. Something to contend with in the summer, but worth it.
Just a beautiful turntable, I love it! I too use a Garrard 401, on a plinth I made, it's nice, but yours is just gorgeous. I use a Dyavector 501 arm, I really like the combination.
I was reading about a vintage dealer in Utah and his unbelievable system (hundreds of thousands of dollars) and noticed he had a little system and these were the speakers. I did a quick eBay search and someone 20 miles away was selling a pair. He'd had them for a couple years- they were rewired and in great shape except that they were in a flood so there was mud inside... but not up the components. I bought them and cleaned them up. I'm constantly amazed and how great they sound with 8W SET. Our loft is small so I roll them in to listen. I'm right now thinking of swapping the Lamm preamp for a McIntosh C22- just trying to get a little more bass out of the amp and want to experiment with tone controls.
Wowsers those Diatones are the real deal - origin story please! How'd you end up with these beauts, and for those who's audio quest focuses on modern SOTA offerings, why?
