Yes, I’m streaming Qobuz using Roon running on my Mac mini. The mini feeds the Ayre DAC. I use the CD player to play music from my library I can’t find on Qobuz, which unfortunately does not have some of my favorite albums.
Hey, Thanks for sharing your journey in this hobby. You have really taken god care of the equipment - I must say - at least by the looks of it. Do you plan to get into file based system or continue to use CDs? Does not matter - but just curious, now that you are getting back into it.
Yes, those are the Magnepan 1.7i. Relatively recent addition to the system, replaced a 30-year old pair of ProAc Response 3s. Loved the Response 3s but was ready for a change. First heard Maggies back in the 70s and have toyed with the idea of getting a pair since. Love them, although I do sometimes miss the slam the old ProAcs had. Just realized I hadn't put the Maggies on my equipment list. Will have to fix that.
Bought the cj amp and preamp back new in 1988, 1992 respectively. Started out with an old PV1 and have been a cj fan since. Was able to buy the MV100 cheap as it was a demo unit. Later traded in the PV1 for the PV9a. Bought the CD player in 2006 - was told it was the unit TAS used for their review, which is kind of cool but otherwise unimportant.
The Ayre is a recent addition: bought it used about a year ago. Back when I bought the Arcam I also listened to an Ayre CD player. I really liked it but didn't want to pay that much at the time, so I bought the Arcam instead. Have been disappointed with my choice since. The Arcam is a nice player, but I liked the Ayre much better. Finally corrected that error. Now I am thinking of moving up to a QX-5 Twenty.
My system was in mothballs for over ten years as I bounced around the country and the globe for work. Had the cj stuff checked out at the factory and just got around to setting the system back together a few years ago. Interesting fact: Jeff Fischel, cj's new owner, told me he got his start building MV100s. He was impressed I still had it and it was in such good shape. (I always had plans to come back to this system so I took care in storage.)
