Our systems are remarkably similar. I too have Vandy 5A speakers and the same Ayre preamp, power amp, and CD player. Differ a bit in analog front end, where I have Origin Live Resolution turntable, Illustrious arm, Lyra Delos cartridge, and Audio Research PH5 phonostage. Happy listening,
From the Vandersteen Manual: The Model Five is designed for use with amplifiers rated from 30 to 200 watts.
From the Ayre Manual: The Ayre V-5Xe supplies 150 watts per channel continuous in to 8 ohms.
Beyond the specs, no I never wanted for more power: period. Also, it may be worth considering that each speaker has a on-board 300-watt amp powering the bass. In theory, that makes 750 watts available.
When I chose my components, I was impressed with how many folks suggested matching Ayre &Vandy. It works really well...
