I have a pair of Apogee Centaur, same finish and they sound absolutely amazing with my Krell Kav amplifier. Now I am looking for a Duetta or perhaps Duetta Signature so I am going in the same road as you.
Hi Stevan, You need to be careful with under 4ohm types, but anything else is good. If you have a fairly clean power supply then you are good. Try the 1000watt monos.
Chadeffect and Stevepancevo, there is no free lunch when buying any amp genre. Class D is no exception. The ICE modules married to digital power supplies were not created for high fidelity purposes. They were made for mass production purposes. Builders making pretty box amps have come and gone, their products disappointing.
The 500A module, on the other hand, was made for better amps. It requires an outside power supply. B&O's engineers spent umpteen hours improving that module, despite constricted sales.
Any success with the 500A module depends on the user's engineering prowess. Here is where Henry Ho shows his supremacy IMO. Along with his Fire preamp, this duo kicks ass on my Scintillas. I have Tyco drums on now...... egads!!!!!
See you are very exitable about the ICE power type amps and glad to see that,so the first opportunity i get -have to try them out :) Are they sensitive to speaker cables combined with the Apogee`s
Hi Stevan, I have found valve amps have too many short comings. I have found other ways to get the fluidity valve fans adore.
I have to say you have work real hard to beat the ICE power type amps. They are utterly a revolution for audiophiles. They are cheap, powerful, run cool, with very low distortion and the size of a shoe! No heat sinks to cut your hands on or even break your back lifting them. Just make sure your source is good and up to date and you will be happy.
Hello Chadeffect ! Glad to see more and more Apogee guys here :)
Your right about the technoligy has moved on and there is a lot of good amps for Apogees now. My good friend was the importer of Apogee speakers and Krell so i got to listen a lot of gear over the years with the Apogees , Krell and others.I chose the KSA 100 S because i liked the sound that entire KSA-S series had and my buget was limited. The best sound was from the Krell Audio Standard but the price was tooooooo high!
I dont like the sound from tube amps very much but tastes are different from one individual to another and thats OK
Another Apogee man here! Try different amps from Krell. In the old days they were probably the only thing that could drive Apogees. Now the Technology has moved on... Belcanto e1 will kill the KSA Krells in every way. Tubes are a little more tricky in my opinion with these. The Apogee is capable of mind numbing bass and tubes will detract from their bass performance although the mids...
Yes i saw them on the Apogee forum ( there i am stevan :-) )
They really are wonderfull designed and i like the Stax amp even more ! I first saw the Stax years ago in a Serbian hifi magazine and it was tested with the Diva.
Home made stands are the best when it comes to innovation. I really like yours a lot. I know a fellow in the Netherlands who has a wonderfully designed stand too. I am seriously jealous of you guys.
