The turntable's definitely the weak link. It's a cheapie but performs pretty well considering the cost. The issue here is my record collection -- not that large, and a number of the records were picked up used while I was in college in the '80s, and thus aren't in great condition. Just didn't seem to be worth spending lots of $$ there.
The PreDac is balanced design with XLR connections. I’m not exactly sure how that translates sonically but I think it helps. Also I do utilize the internal dac which I attribute to the improvement in sound. I do need a streamer though as I am using my laptop currently. I hooked up my son’s bluesound node (newest version) and it did improve the sound. My next upgrade. You have a nice setup though.
mjcmt recommended upgrading to the new pre, but since I use an external DAC, I'm not clear on the sonic advantages. The Nova 300 seems to be doing a good job, but I'm curious as to whether the new unit would be a worthwhile upgrade.
Agreed. I had the Nova 300 and upgraded to the Gan400 with the PreDac. The soundstage opened up noticeably. It’s very nice unit. I was just curious in your setup since your still using the Nova 300 as your preamp.
ricmech23, I liked the Nova 300, but the Gan seems warmer (love the tone), more detailed, and provides a more holographic soundstage. It was a good upgrade.
