The Tympani I is a magnetically driven, flat-panel dipolar speaker with a crossover frequency of 3.2 kHz. It has a frequency response of 32 Hz–40 kHz ±4 dB (IVA) and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. The Tympani I can handle a maximum power of 500 W.
The Tympani I is unique in its appearance and design, resembling a pair of folding room-divider screens. Each screen has two "woofer" panels that operate up to 3.2 kHz, and one tweeter panel for higher ranges.
Magnepan speakers are known for their planar driver system mounted in a panel, which differs from the design of conventional speakers that use cones mounted in an enclosure.
The sound is still incredible. It does need a new fabric covering.
