DB-1 Preamp

DB Systems DB-1 Preamplifier. This is the original, “purist” solid state design which garnered rave reviews in the audiophile world when it was first released. I am the original owner; the preamplifier has been preserved in “like new,” original condition, and comes from a pristine, smoke-free environment.
 
In his original review of the DB-1, legendary audio reviewer Harry Pearson called the DB-1 “a sonic wonder.” Although he was extremely impressed with the preamplifier, he was not alone in his opinion. As part of his review discussion, a listening panel of discerning audio experts put it up against a battery of some of the most prestigious (and stratospherically expensive) solid-state preamps of the era and found that the DB Systems was better than all of them. As a result, the DB-1 earned a Class II listing in The Absolute Sound magazine’s prestigious “Editor’s Choice” of reference products.
 
Despite its extraordinary performance, the DB-1 is small, light, and uncomplicated. Besides high quality Balance and Volume controls, it provides 5 source inputs: Tape, Aux1, Aux2, Tuner, plus Phono input section with one of the most accurate RIAA equalization curves ever made. The DB-1 also offers a front-panel “Low Cut” control with selectable rolloffs of either 18 Hz or 36 Hz, ideal for analog playback, a High Cut control at 10 kHz or 5 kHz, and a convenient muting switch.
 
This is a minimalist preamplifier which provides as direct a link between source and amp as you’re likely to find at any price. A rarity in its condition, the DB-1 is as fundamental and timeless as the engineering talent that created it; a simple, small, and affordable preamp that provides uncolored, transparent preamplification.
