MBL C-31 CD-DAC

This C31 was very recently sent to MBL in Germany for a complete do-over – bringing it up to current specs with everything checked. It is in superb condition: I can find no marks at all except some tiny ones on the small top plate that are only visible close up under strong lighting: In essence, you will be getting a next-to-new player. Most importantly, it sounds stunning – and that’s in the context of a system grounded on Alsyvox planar speakers and top-of-the-line Italian mon-SET amps. (For those of you who are truly serious about considering the purchase, I can send simple (iPhone based) recordings). 

From MBL: The C31 features a Bit-Stream digital-to-analog converter with a psycho-acoustically optimized digital filter…Functioning as a Bessel filter, the analogue section ensures that all signals pass through with a time-aligned linear phase response…The C31 accepts digital signals in PCM resolutions up to 24-bit depth, and sample rates up to 96 kHz via RCA (S/P-DIF), optical (TOSLINK) and USB. To ensure incoming digital signals are synced, a built-in master clock immediately takes charge and removes any disruptive jitter from the working data.” 

The 96 kHz limit is there to ensure the lowest jitter – the mbl designers have explained that the timing behavior is similar to a typical digital filter that runs at 384K.
