Spotheim SpJ La Luce turntable with the original titanium tonearm and Kiseki Purple Heart MC cartridge.
This turntable is in an excellent condition and has been my daily use turntable in the past 3-4 years.
The reason for sale is that I have 3 turntables and only need one.
La Luce was intended to be my last turntable and I was never planning to sell it, but ...
This turntable was restored by Xact Audio Steve Dobbins-
completely taken apart, all small metal parts were ultrasonically cleaned.
Tonearm rewired with Schroeder copper tonearm wire continuously from the cartridge clips to WBT NextGen Copper RCA plugs
Main bearing was micro-polished
The rest of the turntable is perfect cosmetically and functionally.
I've been using it with Dereneville DAE-01 motor, but It will come with the original SpJ AC synchronous motor and Walker Audio Motor Controller.
I put the original motor in to make sure it works properly, and it does- the motor is very quiet and holds stable speed. I spoke with Mrs. Spotheim after acquiring the turntable, and she let me know, that that particular type of motor is the best one she made, but had to be replaced with a cheaper one, as the original was too expensive to manufacture- it is very heavy and really is a piece of art.
The sale will also include Kiseki Purple Heart cartridge- it has some hours on it, but is perfect cosmetically and sounds great, I cannot hear any degradation since I've had it new.
The whole package is turn-key and is ready to be installed into a system.
Something needs to be said about the La Luce tonearm- again, it was so complicated and expensive, that it was later replaced by a much simpler Lyla tonearm.
Tonearm is a marvel of engineering, every single parameter is adjustable on the fly- VTA, azimuth, VTF, Spindle to Pivot distance, the height of the tonearm lift, etc.
The retail price of the La Luce when it was in production- early 90s was $25,000. If you plug that number into an inflation calculator, you'd be surprised.
George Cardas had this turntable in his personal system.
For what it's worth, this La Luce replaced Air Force 3 turntable I've had previously and in my system it's a better turntable.
It comes with the original manual, spare bearing grease, spare thread, spare tonearm counter weights, all the original installation tools, that you can see in the photos.
