For sale a very good condition Rotel RC-990BX remote controlled preamplifier with remote control and manual.
Originally $900, this was Rotel's flagship, Japanese made preamplifier in the mid 1990's. Most audiophiles preferred it to the similarly priced, Taiwanese-made Adcom GFP-565, which lacked a remote control. A look inside reveals extensive use of premium parts, including high end capacitors.
The phono stage in the RC-990BX is considered world class (see below), and outperformed (measured better) than many stand alone phono preamps that sold for multiple thousands.
Not often seen for sale, and almost never in this condition with remote.
From a 1994 survey of sub-$1000 preamps:
"The Rotel was the clear choice over the Adcom GFP-565 and Sumo Athena. Not only is the quality of construction much higher, it adds the convenience of remote control (which the Adcom lacks) and a superb phono stage (optional in the Sumo). Its near textbook measurements show that Rotel has clearly designed this to be a world class unit - at a real world price. The phono stage alone puts to shame many preamps that cost up to $5,000, and is itself worth the Rotel's price tag."
