If you have spent anytime at all looking for a great tube preamp, there is very little offerings in the $4,000-$8,000 price range that can deliver really great sound that performs as well as preamps costing into the $15-20K range.  The only one that I have heard that even comes close to that is the Microzotl from Linear Tube Audio.

The Exemplar Exception SE is another one of those preamps.  I have had a customers use this preamp in $150.000 systems, mated with $40.000 mono blocks.  We have A/B'd this preamp with preamps costing up to $23,000 and it performed better.

The customer that traded this one in, upgraded to the Vinnie Rossi Gen 1 Brama preamp.  5X the cost of the Exception SE preamp.

I know that this sounds crazy, but I have no reason to over sell this unit.  If John Tucker was still selling to dealers, I would keep it and use it as a demo unit.  Unfortunately, John is semi retired and only selling direct now.

Do yourself a favor and don't let this one slip away.  This is a killer preamp and there is nothing on the market that comes close to this unit at it's full retail price.  At $3599, this is a complete steal!

This unit is about 4-5 years old.  Customer traded it in on a new preamp.  Its a giant killer at its retail price. This is a flat out steal for the asking price.
