Rockport Technologies Cygnus-Brand New, still in the crate.

The Rockport Cygnus, which was a direct spinoff of the top of the line $200k Lyra's technology and new its drivers, has been replaced by the all new Lynx($78,000). And that is why someone will snag a killer deal on my last pair.

The Cygnus uses the same drivers as the Lyra, except it uses one midrange driver instead of the two in the Lyra. The main difference between Cygnus and Lyra are the cabinet materials(and price:)).  

We had Cygnus in our demo room for a couple of years before moving to the Lyra. The Cygnus is a great speaker in its own right. 

IMO, it delivers great bang for the buck. It is an amazing speaker. Balanced from top to bottom. Andy's drivers are a work of passion and give the speed of live music for that "you are there" sensation. Cygnus also delivers life like "ease" and "flow" of the music. Few speakers can convey the emotion and the power of music like Cygnus.

The cabinet plays another major part in SQ. Andy's cabinet designs have not been bettered in beauty or resonance control. IMO. Andy understands NVH(noise, vibration & harmonics) like very very few audio designers. That is why Rockport speakers tend to have the lowest noise of any speakers. Look at the double ¾" aluminum baffle pictured below. Very smart.

Here are more details on the cabinet's design features:
The Cygnus features our new aluminum/MDF hybrid construction, where the baffle is machined from two 3/4"-thick, aircraft-grade aluminum plates that sandwich a viscoelastic polymer, forming a 1 1/2"-thick, constrained-mode damped composite sub-baffle. This aluminum sub-baffle assembly is in turn bolted and bonded onto the enclosure’s 3”-thick MDF inner baffle. All of the drive units are mounted to the aluminum sub-baffle assembly.

Again, these are brand new, never removed from their crates. Painted in beautiful piano black gloss.
