GoldenEar Technology SuperSubXXL

Supersub XXL is appropriately named. Fantastic sub produces smooth, clean sound with awesome air moving ability - great with movies and music.

I previously had seven, yes, seven REL T9x’s in my small room and thought that setup was really good. Spatial cues were excellent, but very deep sub bass was missing, and that missing low end meant the full fun factor was a bit subdued. Integrating 7 subs was a very tedious, painful process and room clutter was over the top! Realizing that I was exhausted from tweaking subs that didn’t quite have the bass depth I craved, it was time to enter the upgrade treadmill again. Enter the Supersub XXL…….the single GoldenEar easily outperformed the 7 rel’s in terms of room pressurization, effortless dynamics, and deep/impactful bass. Integration was simple once the placement location was nailed. I was immediately addicted to the new sound so sold the REL’s and purchased a second Supersub XXL. Even at moderate listening volumes the pair shook my room with enough authority to identify loose studs. I had to place felt pads on the backs of picture frames to keep them from rattling against the walls. The sound took on a sense of ease with unconstrained dynamics. 

During movies it was easy to discern the physical space in a scene, which is a really cool effect that was new to me at this scale. I found the pair too much of a great thing in my small room and preferred a single Supersub XXL. Each has two 12” active drivers that fire from the sides and two huge passive radiators that fire toward the floor and ceiling providing air moving force and rich sound that works beautifully with my speakers. Articulate bass reproduction with music is downright amazing. Fluttering effects are stunning, creating a sense of weight and the physical motion of a guitarist plucking strings. It adds a new level of realness that made me want to listen longer and miss it when I was away.
