This is a clone of the well-loved First Watt Aleph J. Chassis, PCB boards, and most of the parts were sourced from DIY Audio. The rare 2SJ74 and 2SK170 JFETs are the real deal, not counterfeits. Overrated power transformer and only quality passive parts used throughout.
The Aleph J is a single-ended mosfet power amplifier making 20 to 25Ws into 8-ohms. I've been in this audio game for 35 years now and this is the best solid-state amplifier I've heard. It has an immediacy and depth that reminds me a bit of vacuum tube gear (my preferred amplification) but still has a neutral character. Provided your speakers - or listening room or habits - can live with lower power, than this is one of the best around. After my build this amplifier was my main amplifier for over four years but, like I always do, I got back into tubes. It has been sitting in a closet since. A few scratches on top, on back, and one big one in the front, hence the price.
Tested recently and it still sounds great.
