For sale is a Balanced Audio Technology VK-51SE tube preamplifier with it's remote, box, and owner's manual in excellent condition. The remote was a $500 option. This preamp has only had one owner and has been looked after very carefully. Its in fantastic cosmetic condition with no blemishes on the face, back or sides. We have also recently installed an upgraded volume encoder, (This is shown in the pictures above). This preamplifier really sounds phenomenal. We are all very impressed with it.
"The BAT's tonal balance was one thing that did remind me, at least in part, of its all-tube design. Glowing glass still holds the high cards in the lushness and bloom department.
There was a very slight darkness to the BAT's sound, though less of it than I have heard from other BAT gear. It did not reduce resolution in any way; its effect was primarily apparent when I listened to orchestral music, and was somewhat reminiscent of a similar quality I've heard in Lamm electronics.
Soundstaging was exceptionally good in all three dimensions, and always true to the recording.
The 6H30 tube has a striking ability to present the full harmonic palette with the intensely saturated colors that only tubes are able to provide, while demanding none of the sacrifices that usually accompany that timbral opulence.
