Technics
Technics was launched by the Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., in 1965 as a brand name for its hi-fi audio products. That's Panasonic to you and me.
Technics built a variety of turntables, loudspeakers, receivers, tape decks, CD players, amplifiers and preamps back in the day. But the company's pièce de résistance was and is a little turntable they introduced in 1972, the Technics SL-1200, prized by vinyl aficionados and DJs (both pros and wannabes) for generations. When Panasonic announced the halt of production of the Technics 1200 turntable in 2010, there was much weeping and gnashing of teeth. Hell, NPR wrote an obit. To no one's surprise, production resumed in 2016.
